Caring for Palm Trees

Before beginning the process of land cultivation, we must make sure that the soil is suitable for farming. The nature of the soil varies according to the particles size. There are three types of soil:

  • Removal of Thorns: Removing thorns after cutting fronds to facilitate for pickers climbing the palm tree, it is also important for the tree in terms of health and aesthetics.
  • Cleaning and Pruning: is the pollination of female trees by using the pollen obtained from the sheaths of the male tree. This process takes place in February and March when male sheaths split widely open and the pollen appears according to the type and species of the palm tree. It is preferable to perform this operation within 2-10 days of the opening of the sheaths
  • Pollination: Is the pollination of female trees by using the pollen obtained from the sheaths of the male tree. This process takes place in February and March when male sheaths split widely open and the pollen appears according to the type and species of the palm tree. It is preferable to perform this operation within 2-10 days of the opening of the sheaths.
  • The Process of Lowering Date Strands: Lowering date strands and tying them to the fronds below.
  • Harvesting and Shaking: Two processes indicating harvesting ripe and sun dried dates (rutab and tamr)
  • Harvesting: is the process of harvesting fresh ripe rutab.
  • Shaking: date strands are placed in a big basket, then strongly shaken so that all the dates fall into the basket which is tied by a rope then lowered by the farmer to a person waiting under the palm tree.
  • Ripe Fruit: Cutting dates strands after the dates ripen.
