Groundwater is the water found underground in the cracks and spaces in soil, sand and rock. It is stored in and moves slowly through geologic formations of soil, sand and rocks called aquifers. The Kingdom of Bahrain has two groundwater systems: the Dammam aquifer system and the Rus-Umm Er Radhuma aquifer system. Bahrain has a heavy dependence on groundwater resources, particularly for the development of the Agricultural and Municipal sectors.
